 Subject + Verb + Gerund


In this pattern, the verbs are followed by gerunds.

Examples :  We avoided talking (NOT to talk) about the matter.
             I finished painting  (NOT to paint) the door.

Other verbs used in this way are :


suggest
mind
keep
imagine
postpone

deny
enjoy
stop
miss
consider


EXERCISE 23   Write out the sentences.  Put in a subject and use a gerund in each case.

Example :    (Subject)/admitted/hide the fact.
             The manager admitted hiding the fact.

  1. (Subject)/suggested/build another airport.
  2. (Subject)/denied/know the truth.
  3. (Subject)/do not mind/wait a little longer.
  4. (Subject)/enjoy/play tennis.
  5. (Subject)/kept/talk during the meeting.
  6. (Subject)/stopped/discuss the plan.
  7. (Subject)/sometimes imagine/become rich.
  8. (Subject)/considered/give a party on her birthday.
  9. (Subject)/missed/see that show.

10. (Subject)/postponed/leave the city.
